The Scientific Centre Kuwait is a gift from the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, to the children of Kuwait. The main theme of this museum is “water” with all its beings. The characteristic of this building is composed by the use of light-weight steel- and membrane – structures with their efforts of covering and shaping. These pre-stressed steel-membrane-structures are composed of 5 different types with an over all area of about 6000m². The widths of the central court are about 70 m in its longitudinal direction and 30m in its transversal direction. The 4 central main masts (Pipes 457 mm) have a height of about 30 m. The composite of the membranes is made of fiberglass and PTFE. The supporting steel-structure consists of pipes and cables (12 mm – 60mm) with a total weight of about 215 to.
